1. Soft-Circuit Workshop: interactive cushion covers

Back by popular demand: our soft-circuit workshop at the V&A.

    soft circuit demo by sophie

Bring a sparkle to your sofa and learn to make your cushions light up when you squeeze or rattle them.

By using conductive thread, LEDs, and E-textiles, you will learn how to build a ‘soft circuit’ into a cushion, and make your interiors interactive. The workshop will lead you through embedding electronics into a cushion provided, but feel free to bring your own textiles or garments to embed the circuit into if you wish.

  2. Wearable Technology: Lilypad Arduino for Beginners!

    Back by popular demand!

For all you techie women, join our one day introduction to the LilyPad Arduino and get your garments interactive!

During the course of the day you will be introduced to the basics of soft circuitry, some basic electronics, Arduino software, programming, and reading a sensor. At the end of the day you will have a functioning interactive patch, which you can sew onto a garment, bag or cushion cover.

    PLEASE BRING WITH YOU:

A piece of fancy fabric of your choice. It is best to use something non-stretchy and stiff, something like cotton or canvas – perhaps with a ‘Christmassy’ twist? ;)

If you want to bring your own laptop, please make sure you have installed the latest Arduino Software on it.

A USB to mini-USB (you are bound to have one somewhere, we thought best not to buy more ;)

Fee: Including LilyPad Arduino £75 + £1.60 booking fee – This includes the LilyPad Arduino, LilyPad Battery Holder and FTDI board.

Not including LilyPad Arduino £35 + £1.60 booking fee – This is for those who do not require a LilyPad Arduino Kit as above. There will not be spares to borrow unfortunately, please make sure you have one for the workshop if you purchase this ticket.

  5. MzTEK at Digital Shoreditch!

Yesterday Digital Shoreditch kicked off for its second year, celebrating the creative techiness which can be found in East London! MzTEK is very proud to be part of the festival and we’ll be participating in a couple of events this week.

Today MzTEK Co-Founder, Sophie McDonald, will be talking on the ‘Women in Tech’ panel, part of the Innovate day which Queen Mary University and City University London is hosting. The panel will explore how women can be better represented in the digital and technology sectors.

On Friday we’ll be running a drop-in workshop at the Identity day where female delegates can create a mini beetle bot or a soft circuit voodoo ghost! This is absolutely FREE! To order your free ticket scroll down to the bottom of the Identity day page.

We hope to see you there! :)
